Why are different places' layout and design different?
I think there are several main reasons for this. First, places are designed to meet different functional needs. For instance, a commercial district is usually laid out with high-rise office towers and efficient public transport systems to accommodate a large number of commuters. In contrast, residential neighborhoods prioritize green spaces and facilities for daily life. Second, local culture and history also play a major role. Take Beijing as an example: the city was traditionally planned around the Forbidden City, and many of its main roads form a clear grid running north-south and east-west.
Why do some people like to redecorate their homes?
There are a few key motivations behind home redecoration. The most practical reason is to replace worn-out household items, such as old fridges or air conditioners, to maintain a comfortable living standard. Another common reason is a change in family structure—for example, couples expecting a new baby or inviting elderly relatives to stay long-term need to remodel their space to accommodate new family members. Lastly, some people redecorate simply out of personal hobbies, such as clearing out a corner of a room to set up a musical instrument like a drum set.
What are the advantages of living in tall buildings?
Living in tall buildings offers several benefits. First, people on higher floors can enjoy a broader view of the city and receive more sunlight because nearby buildings are less likely to block it. Second, a tall residential building usually accommodates many residents, so businesses and public services tend to gather around it. Residents may have convenience stores, restaurants, bus stops, subway stations, and more entertainment options close to home.
Are there many tall buildings in your country?
Yes, absolutely. High-rise buildings are extremely common in China, especially in major metropolises like Beijing and Shanghai. Due to high population density and limited land availability in urban centers, local authorities and developers construct tall buildings to maximize land efficiency. This allows cities to accommodate millions of residents while providing sufficient commercial office space for modern enterprises.
Do many people keep pets in your country?
Yes, pet ownership has become increasingly popular in China, particularly among young urban professionals. Many young adults live alone in apartments and face significant workplace stress, so keeping a pet like a cat provides essential emotional support and companionship after a long workday. However, since most people are busy with work and lack the time or space to walk large dogs, smaller pets such as cats, birds, or fish are generally preferred.
Some people think pets should not be kept in cities. What do you think?
I partly agree with this view. Large dogs can be quite needy and require ample outdoor space to run around. When apartment owners lack the time to exercise them properly, these dogs may become stressed, bark excessively, and disturb neighbors. However, I don't think cities should ban pets entirely. Smaller pets like cats, turtles, or small birds do not disturb others and play a very positive role in boosting people's mental well-being.
Many people regard pets as members of their family. What do you think?
I completely agree with this perspective, and I view it as a positive shift in societal attitudes. In the past, domestic animals were primarily seen as functional tools—for example, dogs were kept to guard houses and cats to catch mice. Today, people view pets as family members who offer unconditional emotional support. This change reflects a more compassionate and responsible attitude toward animal welfare.
What are the advantages of keeping a pet?
Keeping a pet brings multiple benefits. Beyond providing companionship and relieving stress, pets encourage owners to maintain a healthy daily routine, such as waking up early to feed or walk them. In addition, some working animals, like guide dogs or guard animals, provide essential assistance to individuals and enhance home security.
What do you think of people going after high positions?
While it is natural for people to chase high positions to fulfill personal ambitions and gain social prestige, I believe it comes with serious trade-offs. Pursuing high career status requires immense time and effort, leading to intense stress and burn-out. In many cases, ambitious professionals become absent from their home lives, neglecting their spouses and children. As the famous saying goes, 'absolute power corrupts absolutely,' so focusing solely on status and power can lead to an unhealthy lifestyle.
Why do some people not like using apps?
Many people feel overwhelmed by mobile applications because modern life has become overly dependent on them. To perform simple daily tasks—like ordering food, scanning shared bikes, or taking the subway—users must download numerous apps that consume phone storage. Furthermore, many apps are deliberately designed with complicated interfaces, annoying pop-up ads, and sneaky subscription traps. Additionally, older generations often struggle with digital screens and feel excluded by complex software.
Should children learn about law outside of school?
Yes, definitely. Children can learn about laws through everyday informal education. Parents play a crucial role by teaching traffic rules while crossing streets or instilling environmental protection laws during family trips in nature. Moreover, news media and public awareness campaigns effectively educate youth about legal boundaries by highlighting real-world consequences of breaking the law.
What kind of behavior is considered as good behavior?
In my view, good behavior can be defined on two levels. The bottom line is strictly obeying the law—such as respecting traffic signals by not running red lights, never drinking and driving, and safeguarding company secrets at work. On top of this baseline, good behavior involves adhering to higher moral standards, such as showing respect to colleagues, offering emotional support to family members, and demonstrating consideration for fellow citizens in public spaces.
