What subjects are you studying?
Currently, I am a university student, and I major in philosophy.
Are there any old buildings you want to see in the future? Why?
Yes. I have recently become interested in Buddhism, so if I have the chance, I would really like to visit some Buddhist temples. I think they are beautiful, especially because of their vibrant colors.
Do you prefer living in an old building or a modern house?
I prefer living in a modern house because modern homes are often in convenient parts of the city, close to places such as supermarkets and schools. I also think they are usually cleaner and safer than old buildings.
Have you ever seen old buildings in the city?
Yes. I live in Beijing, and there are many old buildings in the city center. For example, there is the Palace Museum, which was used by emperors in the past, and there are also many hutongs where ordinary people used to live.
Do you use headphones?
Yes, I use headphones almost every day.
In what conditions would you not use headphones?
I do not use headphones when I need to be aware of my surroundings. For example, I avoid using them when I am running around my neighborhood or walking on the street because I need to hear cars and notice pedestrians.
What type of headphones do you use?
I usually use wireless earbuds. They are convenient because I can wear only one earbud and still use my other ear to hear people and sounds around me.
Do you prefer typing or handwriting?
It depends. If I need to take quick notes, I prefer typing because it is quicker and easier to edit. However, if I need to memorize something, I prefer handwriting because it helps me remember it.
Do you type on a desktop or laptop keyboard every day?
Yes, I type on my laptop basically every day. As a university student, I need to write essays and take notes in class, so typing is part of my daily routine.
When did you learn how to type on a keyboard?
Yes. If my memory serves me right, I had a typing class in primary school, and the teacher showed us how to type. However, I cannot really remember what I learned then, so I think I mainly taught myself later.
Describe a child who loves drawing/painting.
A child who really loves drawing and is also very good at it is my childhood friend Annie. We first knew each other when we were in kindergarten.
The first time I noticed her was through an exhibition held by our kindergarten. The school displayed some paintings by the children, and one of the most outstanding paintings caught my attention. I remembered that the artist's name was Annie, but I was a little shy as a child, so I did not ask who she was.
Later, my mother took me to an after-school painting class, and I saw a familiar face there. That was when I realized she was Annie. She was very good at painting and had a vivid imagination. Her pictures were creative, and the colors always went well together.
We are not at the same university now, but we still interact on social media. Sometimes I see her post her paintings online. Her work has become less childlike and more mature, and she now shows more technical skill. That is why she is the person I immediately think of when I talk about a child who loves drawing and painting.
What are the differences between reading a book and visiting a museum?
There is a big difference between reading about art in a book and seeing it in an art gallery. In a gallery, you can look at a painting or sculpture from different angles, see its real colors, and sometimes get a better sense of its texture. A gallery is also usually quiet, so people can walk around, relax, and enjoy a more immersive experience.
What is the right age for a child to learn drawing?
I think children can start learning painting when they reach primary school. A teacher can show them useful skills and teach them how to use colors. However, children should still have enough freedom to use their own imagination. If the teaching is too strict, their paintings may become less innocent and less creative.
Do you think galleries and museums should be free of charge?
No, I do not think they should always be free of charge. Art galleries and museums need funding for daily maintenance, for buying artworks, and for holding special exhibitions. If they were completely free, they would lose an important source of income and might find it harder to maintain their collections and exhibitions.
Why do most children draw more often than adults do?
The main reason is that children usually have more free time. They may spend a whole afternoon drawing and fully concentrate on it. Adults, however, often have many responsibilities. Even when they have spare time, they may prefer to lie on the sofa and scroll through social media. Painting requires patience and concentration, which can be difficult for adults who already feel stressed.
