Describe an occasion when many people were smiling.
One occasion that impressed me a lot was a school performance where I played with my band. I was the drummer, and we played two classic rock songs. The audience were smiling because they really enjoyed the performance.
Another funny thing was that our vocalist was a professor, and he almost forgot the lyrics twice. Everyone laughed, including himself, so the atmosphere was very relaxed and warm.
At the end of the event, there were also other performances, and we took a photo together. The event was held for students who were about to graduate. Some professors performed and also shared some advice and words of wisdom to encourage and congratulate the students.
Overall, I really enjoyed it. It was not just a performance, but also a warm graduation event where people felt happy and connected.
Are there any occasions when people need to pretend to smile?
Yes. For example, if one of your colleagues tells an offensive or not very funny joke, you may still smile because you want to be polite and protect the peaceful atmosphere. Also, in some jobs, people have to smile at customers no matter how tired they are, because they need to maintain a professional image.
Do you think people who like to smile are more friendly?
It depends on what kind of smile it is. Sometimes you can tell that a smile is pretentious or fake, so it does not make the person seem friendly. But a genuine smile usually comes from someone friendly. It shows that they trust you and you can trust them, and it can break the barrier between people.
Do people smile more when they are younger or older?
I think people smile more when they are younger. As children, we have nothing much to worry about. We do not need to worry about housing, bills, or children's education. Most of our smiles come from the heart. But when people get older, they face more pressure, and sometimes they have to pretend to smile because they need to be professional or friendly.
Why do most people smile in photographs?
Most people smile in photographs because they want the camera to capture their best moment. They want to look pretty, happy, and relaxed in the picture. Also, people are trained to smile because photographers often say, one, two, three, smile. So after a while, people are habituated to smiling in photos.
How would you feel when you were not well prepared for something?
I would definitely feel anxious and nervous, because I would know there is a high probability that I might fail or make mistakes in front of people. For example, if I did not rehearse a song enough with my band, I might feel nervous because I could make mistakes in front of the audience, and that would be embarrassing.
What kind of occasions do people need to be organized?
People need to be organized when an event involves a lot of people. For example, you need to pick a good time for everyone, book a room big enough to accommodate people, and keep things in order. If there is no plan ahead, the event might become chaotic or even a disaster. High-stakes events, such as ceremonies or visits to factories, also need careful organization because safety factors may be involved.
On what occasions do people need others' help when organizing things?
People need others' help when the event is important or related to many participants. When there are many people, the event becomes more complex and there are many things to worry about. Other people can help with different parts of the process, so the organizer does not have to handle everything alone.
Describe a live sports event you watched and liked.
I once watched a tennis game with my parents when I was a child. My parents' friends gave them three tickets to a tennis game that was held in our city's stadium, so they brought me to watch it.
It took us about two hours to drive to the stadium, and we stayed there for almost the whole day. Since I was very little at that time, I did not quite understand the rules of tennis. All I can remember was that the stadium was very crowded and noisy. Sometimes the audience around me would cheer, and sometimes they would feel upset.
To be honest, I thought the game itself was a little boring, but I really enjoyed the snacks sold at the event. I can still remember a kind of cake that was made in the shape of a tennis ball, and it was delicious. I also drank a lot of soda that day, because my parents did not usually allow me to drink many sugary drinks.
Another interesting thing was that my parents got to know a local tennis trainer at the game, so they bought me a few lessons from him later. Overall, it was a great experience, even though I still remember it took us a long time to find our car because my dad forgot where he had parked it.
What sports games are popular in your country?
In my country, many people enjoy watching basketball games and football games, such as the NBA or FIFA. These group sports are very popular in daily life, although our national teams may not be very strong at them. Our national teams are actually better at some individual sports, such as diving and ping-pong.
Why do some people like going to a live sports event?
I think the main reason is the atmosphere. You can watch the game in person and see the athletes compete with your own eyes. You can also hear the players yelling and the audience cheering. Even if you do not fully understand the game, you can be affected by the excitement around you. Also, when you cheer for your home team with other people, you can find a sense of belonging.
Why do people spend a lot going to another country to watch sports events?
Some people do this because they want to cheer for their home team in person. They may be die-hard fans, so they want to show support even if the game is in another country. It can also be a good chance to travel, see the country, and taste local food. Sometimes those games are not held in their own country, so if they really want to watch the game live, they have to travel.
Where do people normally watch sports events?
Most people watch sports events at home because it is cheap and relaxing. They can lie on the sofa and eat a lot of snacks. Some people watch games in a pub with their friends because there are many people there and they can discuss the game together. Some really crazy fans may watch the event live in a stadium, or even travel to another country for it.
Describe an occasion when you were not allowed to use your mobile phone.
One occasion was a seminar organized by my university. The school invited a famous business person to give a talk, and the organizer said that in order to show respect, we were not allowed to use our phones.
We could only sit there and listen. It was quite boring because it was not our own decision to attend the event. Some students only came because the organizer said they would get credits if they participated.
The talk was also not very useful. The speaker talked about AI, but he was not a professional public speaker and he did not really teach us anything new. Because we were not allowed to use our phones, some people started to write their homework, and some students even fell asleep.
I felt really bored because I was so used to having my phone with me all the time. Without my phone, I could not distract myself, so the whole seminar felt much longer.
What are examples of good and poor phone manners?
There are many unwritten phone manners. For example, when you are in a public space, you should not use the speaker on your phone. You should either turn down the volume or put on your headphones. In a meeting or at the cinema, you should silence your phone or switch it to vibration mode. Also, when you are talking to someone on the phone, you should not hang up abruptly. Another important rule is that you should not point your camera towards strangers, because they may not want to appear in your pictures.
Do you think it is necessary to have laws on the use of mobile phones?
Yes, I think some laws are necessary. For example, people should be forbidden to use their phones when they are driving, because it can distract the driver and cause accidents. There should also be laws to restrict the minimum age for using social media, because children may not be able to distinguish between good and bad content, and they may mimic improper behaviors. In some public places, laws can also protect people's privacy and stop people from taking inappropriate pictures of strangers.
Is it a waste of time to take pictures with mobile phone?
I do not think it is always a waste of time, because our memories are limited. Pictures taken by mobile phones can remind us of enjoyable trips or important moments. However, it can become a waste of time if people take photos all the time instead of embracing the moment. For example, at a concert, some people record the whole performance on a small screen, so they miss what is happening right in front of their eyes.
What positive and negative impact do mobile phones have on friendships?
Mobile phones have a mixed impact on friendships. On one hand, they make it easier for us to maintain friendships. In the past, people communicated through letters, and that could take days. Now we can share little moments in our lives instantly with friends anywhere and anytime.
On the other hand, people can become too addicted to mobile phones. Sometimes when friends hang out, they just look at their screens without saying a word. Another problem is that text messages can be taken out of context. You cannot see the other person's expression or hear their tone, so it can sometimes lead to misunderstandings between friends.
